The honest verdict: they answer different questions. If your thesis is "scarce, durable money that no one can inflate," that's Bitcoin. If it's "I want exposure to the infrastructure the whole ecosystem is built on," that's Ethereum. The reason so many portfolios hold both is that these two theses genuinely don't overlap. "Stablecoin" is a design goal, not a guarantee. USDC briefly slipped below $1 in the 2023 banking scare; the algorithmic UST collapsed to near zero in 2022. Asset-backed coins are far sturdier than algorithmic ones, but no stablecoin is a risk-free dollar. Know the issuer, know the backing.

How to compare any two tokens yourself
You don't need us for every pairing. Run any two tokens through the same five questions and the picture clears up fast:
- Purpose — what problem is it actually trying to solve? Money, computing, payments, a stable dollar?
- Supply — capped or inflationary? Who can create more, and how much already exists?
- Security & decentralisation — how proven is the network, how many independent validators, what's the incident history?
- Fees & speed — what does it cost to move, and how fast does it settle, especially when the network is busy?
- Issuer / governance risk — for tokens tied to a company (stablecoins, exchange coins), how much are you trusting that one entity?
Tokens vs coins: a distinction worth knowing
People use "coin" and "token" interchangeably, but there's a real difference under the hood. A coin is the native asset of its own blockchain — Bitcoin on Bitcoin, Ether on Ethereum, SOL on Solana — and it's what pays the network's transaction fees. A token is issued on top of an existing blockchain using a standard like Ethereum's ERC-20; USDT, USDC and thousands of others are tokens, not coins. Why care? Because to move a token you need a little of the underlying coin to pay gas. You can hold USDT on Ethereum but still be stuck if you have no ETH to cover the fee — a classic beginner trap. Tokens also inherit the security and congestion of their host chain, which is part of why the network you hold a stablecoin on matters as much as the stablecoin itself.
Market cap, liquidity and the "flippening" myth

A token can rise for months on a compelling story and no working product, then fall just as fast when attention moves on. An independent, auditor's-eye comparison cuts through this by asking boring questions the narrative skips: Is there real usage? Who controls the supply? What happens to the token if the founding company disappears? Does it actually need a blockchain, or is the token just bolted on? If a project's entire case is a vibe and a chart, treat that as a reason for caution, not excitement.
Whatever you hold, secure it: enable strong 2FA on any exchange, and keep serious holdings in a wallet where you control the seed phrase. Never type that phrase into a website, and never invest money you can't afford to lose.
Where a token lives changes everything
A subtle point that trips up even experienced buyers: many popular tokens exist on several networks at once. There's USDT on Ethereum, on Tron, on Solana; there's "wrapped" Bitcoin on Ethereum that isn't the same thing as Bitcoin on its own chain. They can share a name and a price yet be completely different assets from your wallet's point of view. Send the Ethereum version to an address that only understands the Tron version and the money is gone. So when you compare tokens, don't stop at "USDT vs USDC" — finish the thought with "on which network?", because that second question decides your transfer fees, your speed, and whether the coins arrive at all. How to research a token you've never heard of

Apply the auditor's routine: find out who created it and whether they're public or anonymous; check whether the supply is fixed or can be minted at will, and how much is concentrated in a few wallets; look for a real product with real usage versus a whitepaper and a promise; and read what the token actually does — does it need to exist, or is it bolted onto a project that would work fine without it? Is USDT or USDC safer?
